Obituary of Bonnie Sowders

Bonnie Sowders

May 20, 1927 – November 14, 2018

Bonnie J. Sowders, 91, of Bedford, died at 6:22 pm on Wednesday November 14, 2018 at IU Health Bloomington Hospital.

Born May 20, 1927 in Lawrence Co., IN, she was the daughter of William Andrew and Ethel Pearl (Arthur) Axsom.  She married Lloyd Dale Sowders on March 2, 1944 and he preceded her in death in 2010. She was a homemaker and farmer. She was employed at RCA in the 60’s and earlier 70’s. She attended Hilltop Pentecostal Church for many years when her health allowed.

Bonnie was an avid basketball fan and enjoyed watching IU and the Pacers. She especially loved music, reading, and writing poetry. She was a wonderful kind, selfless, loving wife and mother.

Survivors include three sons, Mark Sowders of Bedford, Edwin Sowders and wife Janet of Avoca, Curtis Dewey Sowders of Judah; one daughter, Deborah Clevenger of Ellettsville. Also surviving are several grandchildren and great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren.

Bonnie was the 9th of 10 children. She was preceded in death by her husband Lloyd, her parents, brothers Marshall, Harry, Pat, Forrest “Bud”, Hershell Axsom, and sisters, Lorene Stogdill, Lola Norman, Pauline Wray, and Bernice Norman; and one great granddaughter Ashley Shepherd.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Monday, November 19th at the Hilltop Pentecostal Church with Rev. Ronnie Hinson officiating. Burial will follow in the Hilltop Cemetery. Friends may call from 1:00 pm to 6:00 pm on Sunday, November 18th at the Day & Carter Mortuary and from 12:00 noon until the hour of service on Monday, November 19th at the Hilltop Pentecostal Church.

The family asks that friends consider memorial contributions be made to the Hilltop Pentecostal Church.
