Obituary of Phyllis Maxine Owen

Bedford – P. Maxine Owen, 89, of Oolitic, formerly of Bedford, died at 9:50 am on Thursday, September 20, 2018 at Stonebridge Health Campus.

Born September 30, 1928, in Lawrence Co., she was the daughter of Roy and Della Mae (Bunch) Cummings. She married John Ellis Owen on August 24, 1947 and he preceded her in death on October 23, 2002. She was a member of the Englewood Baptist Church and the American Legion Auxiliary 40 & 8. She enjoyed reading and traveling with the Happy Travelers.

Survivors include a son, Steven Owen and wife, Mary Beth, of Ft. Myers, FL; two daughters, Nancy Bruce and husband, John, of Bedford, Christina Wilson, of Terre Haute; four granddaughters, Stacey Kokes and husband, Todd, of Naperville, IL, Shelley Owen, of St. Petersburg, FL, Jenny Church and husband, Chris, and Jamie Wilson, all of Terre Haute; two grandsons, Michael Bruce, of Bedford, and Kevin Bruce and wife, Kelley, of Bloomington; two great grandsons, Zack and Kyle Kokes, of Naperville, IL; a great granddaughter, Suzanna Bruce, of Bloomington, IN; a sister, Norma Stewart, of McCordsville; two brothers, John Cummings and wife, Lana, of Bloomington, and Alan Cummings and wife, Connie, of Bedford. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a brother, Fred Cummings, and two sisters, Mary Jo Manion and Sally Chandler.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 am on Tuesday, September 25th in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Pastor David Ferry officiating. Burial will follow in the Beech Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Monday, September 24th at the Day & Carter Mortuary.
