Received your letter about Willard's passing and Clare and I were both somewhat stunned. Willard always seemed so hardy and upbeat. There are friendships that last ten and fifteen years but our friendship hs lasted more than seventy years It is a deeply felt loss that can't easily be dealt with. We both hope that our long friendship will serve to help you deal with the loss. Thanks for sending the letter amd if we cam be of and help, please let us know.

It has been a great pleasure for me to have known Willard and Mary Ruth for the past 17 years. He was a great member of the Stonebelt Stargazers Astronomy Club. I always enjoyed seeing them coming to our meetings and listening to him. I am really proud to have called him a friend and will miss him very much. He was a great man. Thoughts and prayers are with you.

Willard was so sweet and kind and gentle. He really knew plants and loved sunflowers. He explained to me why my 2nd year sunflowers were so strange. He was very special. Prayers for Mary Ruth and family for comfort and peace.

I just wanted to let you know the impact Dr Yates had on me while in his botany class at Butler. I was a biology minor and his class was my favorite. He had a passion for the material and inspired me to find out all I could about about trees and flowers. He was such a sweet man, just this week I was thinking about his class while gardening. Mary Ruth and Family, I am so sorry to hear of Will's passing. He left a lasting botanical legacy here at Butler and I always enjoyed our conversations over the years.
