Obituary of Shelby J. Flynn

Bedford – Shelby J. Flynn, 81, of Bedford, died Thursday, August 09, 2018 at I.U. Health Hospice House in Bloomington.

Born March 9. 1937, she was the daughter of Alva and Dorothy (Bezzy) Galyan. She married James Flynn in 1954 and he survives. She retired from the Kroger store as a cake decorator. She taught water aerobics at Fit For Life and yoga at Rick’s Gym. At the age of 65, she began taking painting classes and painted every Wednesday at the art shop in Paoli. She was a member of the Mt. Pleasant Christian Church.

Survivors include her husband, James, of Bedford; a son, Danny Flynn, and wife, Connie, of Bedford; a daughter, Tammy Helton, and husband, Jack, of Bedford; five grandchildren, Michael Flynn, and wife, Mellissa, Amanda Simmerman and husband, Tristan, Brandon Helton and wife, Stacey, Whitney Peters and husband, Grant, Brandi Smith and husband, Tim; ten great grandchildren, Decker Pope, Peyton Simmerman, Jacob Simmerman, Jaycee Simmerman, Danielle Flynn, Cassandra Flynn, Jayda Smith, Jack Helton, Owen Peters, and Jayce Mikels; a brother, Homer Galyan, and wife, Deanie,of Bloomington; two sisters-in-law, Yvonne (Bonnie) Galyan and Debbie Galyan. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Larry and Bill Galyan, and a brother, Jackie Galyan (in infancy).

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 am on Monday, August 13th in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Jeff Hudelson officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm on Sunday, August 12th at the Day & Carter Mortuary.
