Obituary of George J. Tirey

George Tirey, 90, of Venice, FL, died June 5, 2018, in Venice, FL.

Born May 16, 1928 in LaJunta, CO, he was the son of Robert E. and Bernice (Fegan) Tirey. He married Neva Reynolds and she survives. He was an industrial engineer at Chrysler Corp. in New Castle, IN and a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in the Philippines during WW II. He was a member of the Elks Lodge #484 in New Castle, IN, American Legion Post #0159 and the Moose Lodge #1308, both of Venice, FL. He was an avid bowler and member of the Chrysler Bowling League for 25 + years, past president of the Henry County Bowling Assoc. from 1974-75 and he was inducted into their Hall of Fame in 1989. He enjoyed boating on the Kentucky and Ohio Rivers. Golfing was his other favorite pastime.

Survivors include his wife, Neva, of Venice, FL; nephews, Darrell Hall, and wife, Jane, Dwight Hall, Jeff Massey, and wife, Cindy; a great nephew, Kyle Massey. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Robert Tirey and a sister, Jo Ann Massey.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 pm on Saturday, June 16^th in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary. Burial will follow in the Pinhook Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11:00 am until the hour of service on Saturday, June 16^th at the Day & Carter Mortuary. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to a charity that you prefer.
