Obituary of Shirley Yvonne Flynn

Shirley Y. Flynn, 82, of Bedford, passed away at 3:15 A.M. on Sunday, December 10th at the I.U. Health Hospice House in Bloomington.

 

Born on August 10, 1935 in Oolitic, she was the daughter of W. Glenn Butler and Lahoma F. (Hildum) Butler. She married Bennie Leroy Flynn on January 19, 1952 and he preceded her in death on March 31, 1999. She worked at Dollens Elementary School as a Title 1 Aide for 34 years, retiring in May of 2004, and later taught at Oolitic Christian School from 2004-2008. Shirley was a lifelong member of the Oolitic Trinity Pentecostal Church.

 

Surviving is her daughter, Susan Swango and husband, David of Bedford; son, Greg Flynn and his wife Jeanna of Bedford; seven grandchildren, Amy Vaught, Kristy Spinks, Stephanie Leonard, Ashley Cook, Sarah Swango, Matthew Flynn, Michael Flynn; six great-grandchildren, Makenzie Spinks, Garrett Spinks, Averi Leonard, Seth Leonard, Meredith Cook, Grayson Cook; three sisters, Glenda Young of Norman, Bonnie Parkes and husband Larry of Bedford, Rita Anderson and husband Jim of Bedford; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one daughter, Linda Lou Aronson; one son Danny Leroy, in infancy.


Funeral Services will be conducted at 1 pm on Wednesday, December 13th at the Oolitic Trinity Pentecostal Church with Bro. Marty Speer and Bro. Keith Thompson officiating. Burial will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 pm until 8 pm on Tuesday, December 12th at the Day & Carter Mortuary and from 11 am until the hour of service on Wednesday at the Church.
