Obituary of Mavis Jewell Stafford

Bedford – Mavis Jewell Stafford, 90, of Bedford, died at 5:00 am on Tuesday, February 7, 2017 at Garden Villa in Bedford. Born November 20, 1926, in Lawrence Co., she was the daughter of Clarence and Clara (Wright) Kirkman. She married John Kimmel in 1946. She later married Thomas Stafford in 1962 and he preceded her in death in 1970. She was a line worker for GE and a homemaker. Survivors include two daughters, Sherry Kapfhammer and husband, Terry, of Fairland, IN and Ravenna Hanners, of Bedford; a son, Kenny Kimmel and wife, Jessie, of Bedford; fourteen grandchildren, Mark Hanners and wife, Nikki, Lionel Hanners, Tim Hanners, Melanie Zumhingst and husband, Jed, Michael Hanners and wife, Beverly, Jeff Hanners and wife, Salli, Scott Kimmel and wife, Tammy, Melinda Williamson and husband, Randy, Melinda Crawford, Bradley Crawford, Matthew Kapfhammer and wife, Christine, Philip Kapfhammer and wife, Alyssa, Tracy Brueggeman and husband, Tim, Julie Dierson and husband, Steve; thirty great grandchildren; several great great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; a brother, Lester Kirkman, of Greencastle. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, four sisters, Marjorie Koontz, Thelma Mikels, Bernice Noel and Marguarite Kirkman. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Friday, February 10th in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Bro. Lyman Taylor officiating. Burial will follow in Springville Cemetery West. Visitation will be from 11:00 am until the hour of service on Friday, February 10th at the Day & Carter Mortuary.
