Obituary of Wilbur Wayne Kern

Bedford Wilbur Wayne Kern, 96, of Bedford, died at 5:27 pm on Sunday, January 26, 2014 at Stonebridge Health Campus. Born October 30, 1917 in Lawrence Co., he was the son of Harry W. and Nancy (Gyger) Kern. He married Mae Isophene Miller on March 29, 1939 and she preceded him in death on May 2, 2007. He had worked for Henderson Coal Co for twenty-one years and retired as a custodian at Bedford North Lawrence High School in 1979. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of the Assembly of God Church and Gillen Post #33 American Legion. Survivors include two sons, Ronald Kern and wife, Sharon of Bedford, Roger Kern and wife, Carol of Florida; five grandchildren, Chris Kern of Loogootee, Cathy Zimmerman and husband, Bob of Evansville, Troy Kern and Damon Kern and wife, Bridget of Bedford, Tracey Stilley and husband, Greg of Greenwood; fourteen great grandchildren; seven great great grandchildren; four brothers, William and Claude Kern both of Bedford, John Kern of Florida and Cecil Kern of Pennsylvania; one sister, Elizabeth Wood of Columbus, OH. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one son, Dallas Kern; four brothers, Warren, Winford, Roland and Perry Kern; two sisters, Anna Marie Jarvis and Trullah Reynolds. Funeral Information Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Friday, January 31st in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Jay Bennett officiating. Burial will follow in Dishman Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Thursday, January 30th at the Day & Carter Mortuary.
