He was the man who brought me to Christ, and who baptized me into Christ when I was a grad student at Michigan State.Though I didn't realize it then, it was a time of my life when I needed Jesus very much. You would think that a church a short walk from the campus of a Big Ten research institution would preach erudite, lofty, intellectually refined sermons, as many local pastors did; Mike (no disrespect; he always insisted we call him that) preached Christ and Christ only, simple Gospel stories of Christ's love -- and students, faculty, and others came in droves to hear him. He would always end with a plea for those outside of Christ to accept Him and, more Sundays than not, someone would.
May God raise up more like him!

I know Heaven is truly brighter after receiving this Angel. Mike Grange preached the gospel without watering it down, I recall a time on a road trip to a youth conference, we were in a car with Mike listening to the radio, and a song came on that spoke of 2 teenagers in a horrible wreck and the artist sang "Oh where oh where can my baby be, the Lord took her away from me. That very next Sunday Mike did a sermon on that song, strongly proclaiming that the Lord did not take his baby away, it was the boy's foolish actions in driving the car too fast that caused the accident, and took her away. Mike never watered anything down. I believe, in all the messages he preached on a Sunday morning, or all of the Singspirations he lead on Sunday evening, you were never in doubt he truly loved the Lord. Thank-you Mike Grange for your dedication and passion. You are the reason that I too know the Lord and am known by Him I will see you again in Heaven!

My condolences to the family. The loss of a loved one is never easy. May God continue to strengthen and bless you as you remember his Word the Bible at Acts 24:15 says that there is going to be a resurrection. With this hope it is possible for you to see him. At times such as this the best Friend a bereaved person can have is our Creator, Jehovah God. Pour out your heart to him in prayer because "he cares for you." (1Peter 5:7) Moreover, he promises that all who do so will have their thoughts and feelings soothed by "the peace of God that surpasses all understanding." (Philippians 4:6, 7) Also allow God to help you heal by means of his consoling Word, the Bible. May all the many wonderful memories that James your loved on provided comfort you during this most difficult time.

I just want to give thanks to God for Mike Grange and his ministry to me and my family when we attended University Christian Church in East Lansing, Michigan. I was in my late 20's when I came to UCC and listened to Mike teach the scriptures with such joy and excitement that i needed to ask myself about my beliefs. Due to his clear presentation the truth, I gave my life to Christ and got baptized a few months later. My family and I spent many a Sunday evening listening to Mike strum his guitar and teach us songs that he had learned and taught to many during his service to the Lord. We were so appreciative when Mike agreed to perform the wedding ceremony for our daughter Jenny and her husband Jeff even after he had moved on to sever in the Grand Rapids area. We were also blessed by his wonderful wife Roberta, who loved Mike with everything in her but sadly passed too early. I am sure that we will be reunited with her and Mike in the Heavenly realms when we all get to heaven! Our deepest condolences to Lynette and all the family at the loss of this wonderful man!

I was so sorry to hear about the passing of Mike Grange! I live in Melbourne, Florida, now and my daughter-in-law, who lives in Swanton, Ohio, told me about his passing this past Monday and read me the obituary in the TOLEDO BLADE! Mike married my husband, Ed Trowbridge, and me on June 18, 1966. We actually got married at Hampton Park Christian Church because the Boulevard Church of Christ was undergoing some renovations. So we were actually married by two ministers as Russell Deitch of that church assisted Mike in the ceremony. I remember Mike telling me that when I had a child some day to be sure to give him/her the name I wanted them to be called as a FIRST name. Thus, my son was MARK and my daughter was TRACY. He said calling a child by their middle name rather than their first could cause problems! I, too, remember the wonderful Sunday nights at Boulevard when we would sing along with his guitar. Whenever a month had 5 Sundays, we would have an evening "Singspiration!" Those were wonderful times that I've never forgotten! Please accept my condolences Bill, Mary Fay, Christina, Robby and Shelly. It's interesting, since I'm a retired teacher, that 4 of his children went into education! Praying for your family!

I will never forget the sermon Mike preached during our Summer of All-Star Preachers. The visualization of that sealed Bible is something I will never forget. Godbless Linette as you face the days ahead. There are two widows sitting next to you in the choir who will help hold you up in the days ahead.

What an honor to know Mike. From MSU to Grand Rapids I will cherish all his words of wisdom and friendship. We loved seeing the Grange "kids" when you visited our church services. And, what a joy to have Linette, Mark and Scott as part of our congregation for so many wonderful years. Thanks Linette for your personal doctor care of Mike.
Thinking of you all.

I have so many happy memories of Mike. First as a very fun-loving Literature Professor at Great Lakes Bible College. His class was always so much fun and I really learned so much. As a college student I also attended University Christian Church where Mike was minister and teacher of the College Sunday School class. I remember having to get there early to get a seat in the balcony class room because it was packed with students. After I graduated from college and got married my husband Bill and I made UCC our church home. I remember the week after we became members Mike came to our apartment and asked me to put my music degree to work leading the Adult Choir at UCC. He was always so encouraging to Bill and I. On Sunday (May 1) after I heard of Mike's passing I was leading worship and we were singing "Isn't He" and in my mind I could see and hear Mike playing his guitar and singing along with us. And whenever someone asks, "How are you?" His response, "Fine as frog's hair." always comes to mind.

The passing of a loved one is always a difficult thing, no matter what the circumstances. All we can hope for are the love and support of family and friends. May you find solace in the good memories of Mike and also knowing the positive impact he must have had on others as a man of God. In a way, his whole life prepared him for this moment - to lay his eyes on our Creator. Condolences and blessings to the Grange extended family.

So very sorry to hear of your Dad's death - he was our Dad's best friend and we have always considered your whole family our family as well. I plan to come to Bedford on Monday for the funeral - brother John is coming too! Mike always told the story of how he made my mother so mad when he gave me my first haircut cutting off all my curls (said it was time I looked like a boy!!) To my oldest friend Bill, I know wherever there is a church campfire in heaven, Mike, Bob and Bryan are leading the singing!!!!!!! So very sorry and I hope to see you all Monday! All our love, Bob and Jane Maxey

We are saddened to hear that Mike has left us but rejoice knowing that he is sharing the Joys of Heaven with our Father, Bryan Maxey, and the many friends that Mike made while here on earth.
I recall the phone call I had to make to Mike when Dad passed away and having to tell Mike that our Dad, who always referred to Mike as "His Best Friend in the Entire World", had passed away.
Dad and Mike shared many joys in life and now will share many more joys in Heaven.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the family, at this Sad but Joyous time, as they "Celebrate the Life of their Father"
Take care, God Bless

Mike, I will never forget you. You and Roberta made such an impact on my life, way back when. Loved hearing you sing and play your guitar and also your trumpet when you were the minister at Boulevard Church of Christ. I'll never forget your sermons, especially the one where you brought in props to make a point. I'm just sorry I couldn't see you one more time. Know that you are loved by many people. I know you are in Heaven with Jesus. Thank you for your service to Christ.

Mike married us at Boulevard Church of Christ in August, 1968. Have a lot of good memories of Mike and his family. Loved the evening services when he would bring his guitar and we'd have a Hootenanny. People would call out songs they wanted to sing, and he'd play the guitar. I don't think there was ever a song he couldn't play. RIP, Mike.--Pam (Cole) Riek
