Obituary of Jay Donald Baker

Bedford – Jay Donald Baker, 59, of Bedford, died Saturday, September 19, 2015 after a brief illness. Born June 23, 1956 in Bedford, he was the son of Billy Don and Roberta (Chastain) Baker. He played basketball for Shawswick High School before graduating with the class of 1974. He was a machine repairman at GM until retirement in 2010. Survivors include two daughters, Whitney Baker (Dakota Evans) of Bedford, Haley Hatfield (Bobby) of McCordsville; a son, Garrett Baker (Jodi) of Bloomington; grandchildren, Koltyn Evans and Cruz Hatfield, of McCordsville; a sister, Denise Dillman (Jay) of Bedford; sister-in-law, A.J. Sloan (Jim) of Zionsville; aunt, Mary Scheffel of Bedford; several nieces and nephews including Molly Mayer (Tyler) and their children, Jay and Leo; several cousins and his special little buddy, Klayton Pence. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 pm on Friday, September 25th in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Rev. Jim McDowell officiating. Burial will follow in the Hilltop Cemetery in Avoca. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Thursday, September 24th at the Day & Carter Mortuary.
