As the acting Chaplain of 1st battalion 7th Marines I offer our condolences to Mark's family on his passing from this life. In the days ahead we hope all of you find comfort in God's love. Dear Janet,
We never met, always hoped to. My dear husband of 47 years served with Mark in Vietnam. He was so excited to find Mark on facebook as he has made it his life's mission to find his "buddies." We are up to about 13 or so now. We never could really get a dialog going---maybe Mark was not talking (as so many of them chose to do), or to me, it looked like he was very wrapped up in his lovely family---beautiful grandchildren etc. Warmed my heart to see the photos he posted. Whatever the reason, he looked happy & that was all that mattered to Giant (as the guys to this day still call him). Mark was always "Chase" when I hear them talk. ----So we want you to know the profound sadness we feel at losing another "buddy." God bless you & your family. Last year we lost Gordon Martin (Bum as he was called---in case Mark did ever speak of his time in Vietnam & his buddies). We were planning on getting in touch with you very soon as at the end of Oct. as we are all going to meet up in Texas for another get together, reunion. We had hoped to get you & Mark there.----Just know you are in our thoughts tonight & in the coming days. Hoping you all know there is a group of Vietnam Vets who are hurting tonight. He was loved. Semper fi Mark Chase! Don't know what we could do but we serve a God who can handle it all & will ask Him to give you peace that passes all your understanding during this time. Sincerely,
