Obituary of Levi E. Hatfield
Bedford Levi E. Hatfield, 87, of Bedford, died December 28, 2003 at the home of his daughter.
Born February 17, 1916, he was the son of George Washington and Jenny (Strosnider) Hatfield. He married Lilah Sanders on May 28, 1939 and she preceded him in death on November 16, 2001. He was a retired sheriff for Lawrence County and a former marshall for the town of Oolitic. Levi was a member of the Englewood Baptist Church and G.O.P. of Lawrence County. He was a disabled veteran of WW II and an honored citizen of Indiana. He will be sincerely missed by all of those who shared his life.
Survivors include one daughter, Sharon Phillips and her husband, Don of Bedford; three grandchildren, William Levi Phillips of Mission Viejo, CA, John Robert Phillips of Terrace Park, OH and Julia Govoni of Douglasville, GA; four great grandchildren, Robin, Marla, Ian and Billy; one niece, Patricia Lee of Eustis, FL. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one sister, Cleta Quillen; one step-sister, Lelah Torphy; two brothers, George Edward and Marshall Glen Hatfield. Funeral Information
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 am on Saturday, January 3rd at the Englewood Baptist Church with Rev. David Ferry officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery. Friends may call from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Friday, January 2nd at the Day & Carter Mortuary and from 9:00 am until the hour of service on Saturday at the church. Military rites will be accorded at the graveside by members of Gillen Post #33 American Legion.
