Obituary of Stephen T. Hampton

Bedford- Stephen T. Hampton M.D. died peacefully at home on October 16, 2009. He had courageously been fighting cancer for the past year. He was born March 18, 1956 in Saginaw, Michigan. He grew up in Argos, IN where his father was in family practice. After graduating from Argos High School he attended Purdue University and then attended Tulane University in New Orleans, LA. He earned a degree in Biology and a masters in Pharmacology. After working for the Department of Energy in New Orleans and Washington D.C. He graduated from Medical School at Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans. After completing his orthopedic residency in Chicago at the University of Illinois he moved to Anderson, IN and practiced 16 years before moving to Bedford and working for Dunn Memorial Hospital as part of South Central Indiana Orthopedics and Sports Medicine. He also covered the BNL teams with pride While he was in Anderson he was the team doctor for all athletics at Anderson University. He also taught and provided job shadowing opportunities for many high school and college students. He is survived by his wife Julie (Snyder) Hampton whom he married August 12, 1978, two daughters Haley age 12 and Lauren age 8 who were the love of his life, his parents Dr. James and Frances Hampton of Naples, FL, one sister Peggy Annis and her husband Larry of Monon, IN, two brothers; David Hampton and his wife Traci of Edmond, OK, and John Hampton and his wife Darci of Plymouth, IN , his father and mother in law: Don and Marlis Snyder of Plymouth, IN, brother in law and sister in law, Doug and Kim Snyder, sister in law, Karen Snyder, and brother in law Tim Snyder all of Plymouth, IN, several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Marc and Michael Hampton and his wonderful grandparents. Funeral Information Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 am Wednesday, October 21st from the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary in Bedford. Graveside committal services will be conducted at 3:00 pm on Wednesday at the Maplewood Cemetery in Anderson, IN, on the campus of Anderson University. A memorial service will be held at a later date in Plymouth, IN. Friends may call from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Tuesday, October 20th at the Day & carter Mortuary. Donations Information In lieu of flowers the family asks that friends consider memorial contributions be made to Limestone Girls Club where Steve was honored to be a member of the board, The Dunn Memorial Hospital Foundation, or to Anderson University Department of Sports Medicine
