Obituary of Sallie Hackett

Bedford Sallie Hackett, 84, of Bedford, died at 1:20 am on Thursday, December 25, 2008 at Garden Villa in Bedford. Born December 12, 1924 in Mississippi, she was the daughter of Willie and Oralee (Osborn) Sledge. She married Phillip Hackett in 1940 and they later moved to Chicago, IL. Together, they raised three children. Sallie confessed Christ at an early age in Dells, Arkansas under the leadership of Rev. James Pastor at the New Galilee Baptist Church. She became a member of the Landmark Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Joseph Sylvester and was a faithful member of the Floral Club. She had worked as a housekeeper at Sherman Hotel, until she began working at Duo Fast in Franklin Park, IL from 1960 until retirement in 1987. She and her husband relocated to Bedford, IN in 1993, when he became ill. She joined the Second Baptist Missionary Baptist Church and committed her service to the Usher Board and Pastors Aid and Womens Ministry Auxiliary. She was known as the mother and grandmother of the church. Sallie had worked at Chucks Soul Food in Bedford until she became ill. Sallie was both mother and grandmother both near and far, and now she leaves to cherish her memories two children, Bertha Sterling and Roy Hackett both of Bedford; fourteen grandchildren, Renee Hackett of Chicago, Janice Nickeo and her husband, Patrick of Bedford, Michael Hackett and his wife, Michelle of Chicago, Phillip Hackett of Alabama, Kym Hackett and Marc Hackett both of Chicago, IL, Jasalynn Rhodes and her husband, Lerron, Heather Rhodes and Andrew Hackett of Pennsylvania, Robert Hackett of Joliet, IL, Darren Hackett of Chicago, IL, Johanna Williams and Tracy Gist of Bedford; fourteen great grandchildren; one sister, Inez Simmons of Chicago, IL; one brother-in-law, Charles Hackett of CA; one sister-in-law, Trudy Gordon and her husband, Felix and a family tree of nephews, nieces, cousins and many many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Phillip; one brother, Russell; a son, Jimmie; a grandson, Jimmie, Jr.; two son-in-laws, brother and sister-in-laws. Funeral Information Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 am on Monday, December 29th from the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Rev. Donald Griffith and Rev. Johnny Williams officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery.
