Obituary of Mary M. Gerkin

Bedford Mary M. Gerkin, 96, of Bedford, died at 3:45 am on Wednesday, December 10, 2008 at StoneBridge Health Campus. Born October 29, 1912 in Martin Co., she was the daughter of George and Elsie (Todd) Harp. She married Lester Gerkin on July 28, 1929 and he preceded her in death. She was a homemaker and a Pink Lady Volunteer with over 10,000 hours donated to Dunn Memorial Hospital. She was a member of the Southland Church of Christ, the Royal Neighbors and the Brightwood Homemakers Club. In addition to her affiliation with the Pink Ladies, she had been a Red Cross Volunteer since 1941. Survivors include two daughters, Elsie Mullis and her husband, Perry and Barbara Fish and her husband, Donald all of Bedford; twelve grandchildren, Terry Mullis and his wife, Georgan, Mike Mullis and his wife, Leslie, Tim Mullis and his wife, Pat, David Mullis and his wife, Libby, Brian Mullis and his wife, Lynn, Kevin Mullis and his wife, Wendi, Gary Fish and his wife, Gail, Pam Colglazier and her husband, Lee, Phillip Fish and his wife, Carman, Karen Murnane and her husband, Jim, Ronald Fish and his wife, Melissa and Tracey Fish; thirty-three great grandchildren, and thirty-three great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one sister, Violet Shelton; six brothers, Ward, Lloyd, Floyd, Marion, Rolland and Paul Harp. Funeral Information Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 am on Saturday, December 13th from the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Rev. Bud Smith officiating.
