Obituary of Edward W. Frega

Edward Walter Ed Frega, Jr. 78, of Williams, went to be with his Savior at 3:12 AM May 18, 2013 at Bloomington Hospital. Ed was born June 7, 1934 in Maywood, IL, the son of Edward Walter and Lydia (Hintz) Frega. He attended school in Bellwood, IL and is a 1953 graduate of Proviso High School in Maywood, IL. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force serving in Germany and the Azores from 1954-1957. He is survived by his wife, Alice E. Knapp of 45 years, married May 4, 1968 in Westchester, IL. He worked for American Can Co. in Maywood, IL. After American Can, he was employed by Illinois Tool Works for 27 years as a contractor for the United States Navy. His work involved the towed array handling system on nuclear submarines and he was privileged to have worked on every U.S. Naval Base in the world. He followed the naval contract to Crane, IN to Chesapeake, VA and then to Middletown, RI being in each place for 4 years. He retired on July 19, 2002 and they decided to call Williams their home once again. Since moving to Williams in 1991, they have attended Calvary Lutheran Church in Bedford where Ed served on various committees. He was a dedicated member of the Bedford Rotary Club, as well as a board member of the Lawrence County Concert Association. Surviving with his wife, Alice of Williams; is his daughter, Kimberly Dawn of Cedarburg, WI; grandchildren, Teia Jordan, Isabel Coryn (Andrew) Passmore, Kellen Philip Batiansila, Samuel Jaden Harmer, Mason Alexander and Cooper Henry Edward Schultz all of Cedarburg, WI; a great-granddaughter. Braelyn Yeva Passmore and a sister, Marilyn A. Frega of Lakeland, FL. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Charles Eugene Frega. Funeral Information Visitation will be held at the Calvary Lutheran Church in Bedford on Tuesday, May 21st from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM with memorial services being conducted at 3:00 PM where Military rites will be accorded by the American Legion Gillen Post #33. A dinner will follow. Memorial contributions may be made to Calvary Lutheran Church.
