Obituary of John W. Fountain

Bedford John W. Fountain, 84, of Bedford, died at 4:10 am on Tuesday, May 11, 2010 at Mitchell Manor in Mitchell. Born December 24, 1925 in Lawrence Co., he was the son of Cletus and Gertrude (Gaines) Fountain. He married Doris Blackburn on November 21, 1947 and she survives. He was a life-long farmer and a member of Leatherwood Christian Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, and past member of the Farm Bureau Co-op board, Jackson County REMC board, Springville Feeder Auction board, Farm Service Agency board, Lawrence County Ag Committee, Shawswick Township Trustee board and was the 1961 Outstanding Farmer in Lawrence Co. Survivors include his wife, Doris, of Bedford; two sons, John W. Fountain, II and wife, Debbie of Paoli and Jerry Lee Blackburn Fountain and wife, June of Bedford; a daughter, Susan Gayle Cessna and husband, James of Mitchell; two sisters, Ruth Daggy and Janet Pridemore both of Bedford; five grandchildren, Heather Cessna Stigall and husband, Jeremy of Bedford, Erin Fountain of Orleans, Paul Fountain and wife, Janice of Mitchell, Bryan Fountain of Washington, IN, Lindsay Fountain Wilson and husband, Ben of Ellettsville; three great grandchildren, Seth and Abigail Fountain and Heather Haley Stigall. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Thomas and Robert Fountain. Funeral Information Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 am on Friday, May 14th in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Rev. Sherman Thomas officiating. Burial will follow in the Cresthaven Memory Gardens. Friends may call from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Thursday, May 13th and from 9:00 am until the hour of service on Friday, May 14th at the Day & Carter Mortuary.
