Obituary of Betty Lou Fortney
Bedford Betty Lou Fortney, 82, of Bedford, died at 6:45 am on Wednesday, November 12, 2003 at Westview Manor in Bedford.
Born September 21, 1921 in Kirksville, MO; the daughter of: Thomas D. and Ola (Baldridge) Johnson. Mrs. Fortney lived in Maxell, Iowa as a child and moved to Kirksville in 1934. On March 17, 1940 she married Roy L. Fortney and he preceded her in death on March 21, 1999. Mrs. Fortney was the owner of Mode O Day Dress Shop from 1957 to 1984. A member of Chapter 4 White Shrine, she was a Worthy Priestess in 1964; a member of the Order of the Eastern Star #184 where she was a Worthy Matron in 1968 and served as District Deputy Grand Matron from 1977 to 1978 and held the office of Marshall for fourteen years. She was the President of El Kadir Shrine Jewels in 1986 and a member of First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Janet Jackson and her husband, Jerry of Bedford; one daughter-in-law: Joyce Fortney of Harrisonville, MO; grandchildren, Jeff Jackson of Carmel, IN, Julie Thomas of Indianapolis, Jason Jackson of Bloomington, Lisa (Fortney) Allen of New London, MO, Mariann Myres and Laura Shirley both of Lees Summit, MO; eight great grandchildren; one brother, Thomas Lee (Sonny) Johnson of Baxter, Iowa and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband and one son: Larry L. Fortney who died April 23, 2003. Funeral Information
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, November 15th at the Davis-Playle Funeral Home in Kirksville, Missouri. Entombment will follow in the Maple Hills Chapel Mausoleum. Friends may call at the Davis-Playle funeral home on Friday from 6 until 8:00 P.M. Donations Information
