Obituary of Virgil Dean Armstrong

Springville-Virgil Dean Armstrong, 76, of Springville died at 2:42 A.M. on Sunday, July 25, 2010 at the Bloomington Hospital. Born May 22, 1934 in Illinois he was the son of Lester S. and Nan (Doughty) Armstrong. He married Harriet Crum on October 17, 1954 and she preceded him in death on October 10, 2003. He then married Nelda (Garmon) Finfrock on November 23, 2005 and she survives. Virgil was the owner of Harvi Hill Christmas tree farm for 39 years, he also worked as a bus driver for the Eastern Greene School Corporation for 20 years, for Bloomington Shuttle Service for 5 years and at NSWC Crane for 5 years. He was a member of the Indiana Christmas Tree Association and a founding member of the Mid America Christmas Tree Association. Survivors include his wife Nelda of Springville, two children: Joe Armstrong and his wife Sheri of Muncie, IN, and Karen White and her husband Larry of Springville, IN; four step children: Christine Haun and her husband Glen of Tampa, FL, Charlotte LaFever and her husband Bobby of Valdosta, GA, Chuck Finfrock and his wife Lori of Maryville, TN, and Carla Herrman and her husband John of Chester, VA; five grandchildren: Arika, Kaylin and Alexis Armstrong, Sarah and Brian White; eight step grandchildren Brandon Council, Jennifer Dunn, Michelle Ezzell, Carrie Lumley, Jessica Sidell, Michael, Leighton and Matthew Finfrock; one great granddaughter: Emma White; four step great grandchildren: Marley Stevens, Willy and Penny Lumley and Sydney Church; two sisters Lynn Fosler of Beloit, WI and Helen Perry of Streator, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Harriet, and one sister Carol Theisinger. Funeral Information Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, July 28th from the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary. Burial will follow in the Dishman Cemetery in Greene County. Friends may call from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Tuesday, July 27th and from Noon until the service time on Wednesday at the Day & Carter Mortuary.
