Obituary of Ben Evans
Bedford Ben Evans, 72, of Bedford passed away at 6:07 pm on March 19th, at the Bedford Regional Medical Center.
Born on September 5th, 1931 in Lawrence County, he was the son of Murl and Thelma (Miller) Evans. He married Neysa Brooks on November 25th, 1983 and she survives.
He was the former owner of Evans Service Station on the corner of 16th and Hillcrest in Bedford. He then worked for Jimmy Smith at the Fayetteville Store, then purchased the store in 1962 and sold it in 1971. He drove a school bus for NLCS for 18 years and was a self employed carpenter and cabinet maker. He was a member of the Fayetteville Baptist Church and was an avid bowler in the 1960s. He was one of the founding members of the Indian Creek Volunteer Fire Department
Surviving are his wife, Neysa; Children: Phillip Evans and his wife Muriel of Pinhook; Trudy (Evans) Holtsclaw and her husband Roland of Greenwood; Toby Evans and his wife Samantha of Memphis, TN; Step-Children: Leysa Nichols and her husband Aaron of Salem; Layne Dartt and her husband Chris of Jacksonville, FL; Eric Lewis and his companion Joyce Ward of Fishers, IN
Ten Grandchildren: Joe Evans and his wife Sarah; Keyla Lindell and her husband Luke; Kyla Evans; Micah Benjamin Evans; Darren Holtsclaw and his wife Jonetta; Tyler & Kaylea Davis; Tatelyn Blanton; and Taylor & Ethan Lewis.
Four Great Grandchildren: Logan, Landen, Lexis Holtsclaw and Gavin Evans.
Three Brothers: David Evans, Bob Evans and Bill Evans
Two Sisters: Wilma Haskett and Toni Fields; and Several Aunts, Uncles, Nieces & Nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, James Evans. Funeral Information
Funeral services will be at 10:00 am on Tuesday, March 23rd, from the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Pastor Kenny Walden officiating. Burial will be at the Fayetteville Church of Christ Cemetery.
Friends may call from 3:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Monday, March 22nd at the Day & Carter Mortuary.
In Lieu of Flowers the family ask that friends consider contributions be made to the Awana Program at the Fayetteville Baptist Church.
