Obituary of Martha V. Jewell

Bedford Martha V. Jewell, 85, of 2020 Plaza Drive, Bedford, died at 1:33 pm on Thursday, February 19, 2009 at the Bedford Regional Medical Center. Born April 10, 1923 in Texarkana, AR, she was the daughter of Michael David and Loutie May (Hopkins) Elkins. She was a homemaker and former co-owner with her husband of the Three Pigs Restaurant in Bedford. She married Omar Lyman Jewell on June 10, 1944 and he died December 4, 1991. She was a member of the County Avenue Baptist Church in Texarkana, and locally attended the Southern Baptist Church, Free Methodist Church and the Tabernacle of Praise. Survivors include one son, Curtis Jewell and his wife, Robin of Bedford; two daughters, Janice Jewell Funk of Bedford and Debbie Baker Baity and her husband, Tony of Indianapolis; ten grandchildren, Stephanie Lovell, A.J. Baker, Kenneth Baker, Michelle Baker, Miriam Jolliff, Angel Jewell, Alicia Smith, Shayna Smith, Alex Jewell and Brianna Jewell; eight great grandchildren, Andrew Robinson, Alex Robinson, Rex Lovell, Kennedy Baker, Lexi Baker, Emma Baker, Zoey Baker and Abigail Jolliff; close family friend, Stacy Doane-Selmier; several nieces, nephews and in-laws; one aunt; three brothers, William Elkins of Texarkana, AR, Charles Elkins of Ozark, MO and Wayne Elkins of Little Rock, AR; two sisters, Dovie Dodson and Helen Hughes both of Henderson, TX. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three brothers, James, Eugene and Fincher Elkins and one sister, Ruth Ann Curtis. Funeral Information Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 pm on Monday, February 23rd from the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery.
