Obituary of Dale B. Deckard
Bedford Dale B. Deckard, 86, of Bedford, died at 11:30 am on Tuesday, April 20, 2010 at Dunn Memorial Hospital.
Born March 18, 1924, in Lawrence Co., he was the son of Clarence "Jackie" and Cordelia "Dealie" (Mitchell) Deckard. He married Virginia May Hicks on September 4, 1948 and she survives. He was an overhead crane operator and retired from the Woolery Stone Co. in 1989. He attended the Heltonville school. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army with the sixty-sixth Infantry Division, the three hundred eighth Engineering and eighty-third Infantry Division during WW II. He was a former member of the American Legion and of the Pentecostal faith. He enjoyed church,gardening, motorcycle riding, TV, his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife of sixty-one years, Virginia of Bedford; two sons, Dennis Dale Deckard and wife, Jonna and Terry Brent Deckard and wife, Peggy all of Bedford; one daughter, Sheila Leigh Corbin and husband, Bruce, of Bloomington; six grandchildren, Brandon Deckard and wife, Nikki, Whitney Harrison and husband, Toby, Brian Corbin, Amy Silvernail and husband, Steven, Ryan Deckard and Jerod Jennings; five great grandchildren, two half-sisters, Beulah Fay Owings and Wanda Peterson both of Bloomington; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Oma Bartlett and Lorena Lewis; one half-sister, Bertha Bartlett; three half-brothers, Earl, Burl and Birtle Blackwell. Funeral Information
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 pm on Friday, April 23rd in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary. Burial will follow in the Dive Cemetery. Military rites will be accorded at the graveside. Friends may call from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Thursday, April 22nd and from 12:00 noon until the hour of service on Friday, April 23rd at the Day & Carter Mortuary.
