Obituary of Lavonia L. Deckard

Bedford Lavonia L. Deckard, 88, of Bedford, went to be with Jesus at 9:58 pm on Tuesday, April 21, 2009 at Dunn Memorial Hospital. Born July 2, 1920 in Monroe County, IN, she was the daughter of Carl and Edna (Stewart) Phillips. She married Wayne Deckard on September 5, 1936 and he preceded her in death on March 30, 1992. She was a homemaker and a member of Donica Memorial Church of God. Surviving are two daughters, Shirley Sowder and her husband Farrell and June Hall both of Bedford; one son, Don Deckard and his wife Betty, of Bedford; five grandchildren, Cami Terry and her husband Mike, Treva Sommers and her husband Ray, Doug Sowder and his wife Lisa, Troy Deckard and his wife Kathy, Jeff Hall and his fiance Amy Eads; two great granddaughters, Nicki Sommers and Riley Sowder, three great grandsons, Zach Terry, Alex Terry and Ethan Sowder all of who so affectionately referred to her as Amaw; three sisters, Thelma Deckard and her husband Opal and Loretta Maddox, both of Bedford, Norma Douglas of Bloomington; one brother, Bob Phillips of Bloomington and two sisters-in-law, Charlene Phillips and Wanwalah McCullough. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son, Marvin Deckard, two brothers, Elmer Phillips and one who died in infancy and one son-in-law, Robert Hall who just recently passed. Funeral Information Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 am on Saturday, April 25, 2009 from the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Rev. Farrell Sowder officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Pleasant Christian Church Cemetery. Friends may call from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Friday, April 24th at the Day & Carter Mortuary.
