Obituary of Lorena Chastain

Bedford Lorena Chastain, 100, of Bedford, died at 2:20 am on Thursday, July 01, 2010 at Westview Nursing and Rehab. Center. Born July 19, 1909 in Gibson Co., she was the daughter of Wilmer and Ella (Schafer) Caniff. She married Maurice A. Chastain on January 11, 1930 and he preceded her in death in 1986. She was a Tupperware distributer and Avon representative for many years. She began taking organ lessons at the age of 65 and played the pipe organ at the First United Methodist Church where she was an active member. She taught music for years and was known for her cooking, baking and piano playing. She played piano at various nursing homes up into her 80s. She enjoyed quilting club, Lydia group and was a past member of WTCU. Survivors include three daughters, Donna Martin of Paoli, Carolyn Teghtmeyer and Elaine Newlin both of Bedford; seven grandchildren, Natalie Matthews of Paoli, Amy Allen of Kokomo, Jennifer George of Medora, Joe Teghtmeyer of Cincinnati, Shelly parsons of Leesburg, IN, Nathaniel Newlin of Bedford and Candace Clark of Orleans; a sister, Ruth Meyers of Florida. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a son, Donald Paul Chastain and seven brothers. Funeral Information Graveside services will be conducted at 3:00 pm on Saturday, July 3rd at Mitchell Cemetery with Pastor Eric Kersey officiating. Burial will follow. Visitation will be from 11:00 am until 2:30 pm on Saturday, July 3rd at the Day & Carter Mortuary.
