Obituary of Priscilla J. Chastain

Bedford Priscilla J. Chastain, 84, of Bedford, died at 3:06 pm on Friday, February 5, 2010 at Dunn Memorial Hospital. Born September 29, 1925, in Lawrence Co., she was the daughter of John Elmer and Lottie M. (Crawford) Beaver. She married Carl E. Green. She later married Jasper Chastain on March 3, 1963 and he preceded her in death on March 11, 1998. She graduated from Shawswick High School and was the co-owner and office manager of Jasper Sheet Metal. She was a member of the First Christian Church, former member of the board of directors for the Thornton Memorial Boys Club, member of the Lawrence County Historical and Genealogical Society and the Erie Homemakers Club. She was instrumental in starting the Lawrence County Rock Club in the 1960s and very active in her political party. Priscilla was a former Assessor for Shawswick Township. She was awarded the Sagamore of the Wabash by then Gov. Evan Bayh. Survivors include two sons, Joe D. Green and Jeffery D. Chastain; one daughter, Rita Y. Green Meyer; two step-daughters, Phyllis Baker and Barbara McCullough; six grandchildren; five great grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; thirteen step-great grandchildren; a brother, Harold Beaver. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jasper; five brothers, John L., David, Frank, Ralph and Phillip; three sisters, Ellen, Dorothy and Rebecca; one step-daughter, Mary Graves. Funeral Information Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00am on Tuesday, February 9th in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Rev. Bob Dailey officiating. Burial will follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens. Friends may call from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Monday, February 8th at the Day & Carter Mortuary.
