Obituary of Harold A. Butler

Bedford Harold A. Butler, 85, of 42 Lincoln Ave., Bedford, died at 10:30 am on Monday, August 15, 2005 at his residence. Born July 21, 1920 in Bedford, he was the son of Alonzo and Effie (Johnson) Butler. He married Betty J. VanWinkle on August 1, 1947 and she survives. He retired as a field superintendent for Cunningham Construction Co. in 1982 and formerly worked at Bedford Building Supply. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy during WW II serving on the USS Queenfish (SS 393) submarine. He was a member of the First Assembly of God in Bedford, American Legion Gillen Post #33, the Submarine Veterans of WW II and the Carpenters Local #546. Surviving with his wife, Betty are two sons, Larry Butler and his wife, Cheryl, Jerry Butler and his wife, Karen all of Mitchell; four granddaughters, Alicia Butler of Louisville, KY, Ashley Stevens and her husband, Jeremy of Indianapolis, IN, Kalee Butler and Kylee Butler both of Mitchell; one sister, Ruth Sears of Bedford; one brother-in-law, Tommy Kern and his wife, Marlene of Bedford and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; six, brothers, George, James, Henry, Paul, Fred and Glenn Butler. Funeral Information Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 pm on Thursday, August 18th from the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Pastor John Dodd and Pastor Glen Duncan officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery. Friends may call from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Wednesday, August 17th at the Day & Carter Mortuary. Military rites will be accorded at the graveside by members of Gillen Post #33 American Legion. Pallbearers are: Jerry Butler, Larry Butler, Alicia Butler, Ashley Stevens, Jim Hildum, Scott Tumey, Gary Young and Jeremy Stevens. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that friends consider memorial contributions be made to the First Assembly of God Church.
