Dr. Hawkins was our family's doctor for as long as I can remember. I did not like the injections (who does?) and I remember Gail (his nurse) coming in with the needle hidden behind her back. My regrets to his family on their loss.

Dr. Hawkins was my pediatrian for as long as I can remember. We were all still in high school and still going to him. He was, and still is, the standard by which I judge my doctors. When I looked for a pediatrian for our daughters I looked for one like him. He guided our family through all of the illnesses with kindness and love. I will always have fond memories of him.

When, at the last minute, I decided to go to IU, I didn't have the required health certificate. My father said, "call your cousing Jean and Dick will see you." I called and he said to come to his home and he'd take care of it. This was in the evening. Because I did go to school, I have had a wonderful career teaching first at Northwestern for 20 years and now at Governors State for 17 years. I learned from Dick that when you can do something for someone, do it. So I have tried to pass on his willingness to help others. I will never forget the opportunity he helped make available for me.

I remember Papaw teaching me to dog-paddle and to find the constellations. We are eating ice cream today to remember him (though we probably won't add the potato chips!) A wonderful grandfather who will be missed.

Dr. Hawkins was simply the greatest pediatrician in the history of Lawrence County. Ive never experienced a doctor who showed the love that this man did for his patients. He will be missed but never forgotten.

My mother, Lucille Phillips, always loved Dr. Hawkins. Mom was not big on praise but What ever Dr. Hawkins said was law! He was a great, kind doctor. Dr. Hawkins was our doctor until we grew up. We always valued him as a doctor and a person. My family is sad to hear about his passing.

Dr. Hawkins was my pediatrician during my young years in Bedford. He was the absolute best - and the only doctor I've ever known that wrote "prescriptions" for ice cream cones that we could take the the Edgewood Clinic Pharmacy if we were good and didn't cry when we got a shot (and believe me, we never cried). Of course I never realized that they weren't really free - I'm sure that Dr. Hawkins must have had a pretty sizable bill at the end of each month! He was such a progressive doctor, and a good man - he really will be missed...

My thoughts and prayers go out to the family at your time of loss. Dr. Hawkins was my pedi when I was a child. I remember once when he was sick at the same time as I, and I cried so hard and told my Mother I didn't want to go to the Dr. because I didn't want to have to see anyone other than him.
Even as a child I knew that he was always so patient, caring and loving. Then as I became a parent, he was the only one I would have chosen to be my oldest son's Doctor.
Thank you for sharing him with everyone. He will truely be missed.
