Obituary of Martha Joy Buker

Bedford Martha Joy Buker, died in her sleep on July 25, 2009. She was born on July 18, 1921. She married John Wesley Buker on December 24, 1941. They lived in love for 67 years. John survives along with her devoted son, Jan Robert Buker and her daughter-in-law, Mariane Eckman Buker. She is also survived by her grandson, Daniel Hilton Buker, his wife, Rebecca and her great granddaughters, Isabelle and Claire. Martha was descended from a pioneer Lawrence County family that moved to Avoca in the early 1800s. The Bridwells had one of two grist mills in Lawrence County, the other being the Hamer mill at Spring Mill State Park. She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred Bridwell and Arlie Williams Gyger Bridwell. Martha was the last of her first family having outlived all of her eleven brothers and sisters and their spouses. Martha Bridwell Buker was devoted to her family in word and deed. She was pretty, strong, loving and truly enjoyed life. By any standard, she was one of a kind. Her deceased brothers and sisters along with their spouses include; Vaughn Bridwell, Van (Rip) Bridwell and wife, Carmita Hill Bridwell, Guy Bernard Bridwell, Elizabeth (Sis) Moore and husband, Ed Moore, Mildred (Meam) Glover and husband, Warren Glover, Paul (Snook) Bridwell and wife, Eunice (Toots) Qualkinbush Bridwell, Raymond (Bull) Bridwell and wife, Margaret (Hodge) Hodges Bridwell, Robert Bridwell and wife, Bette (Trink) Trinkle Bridwell, William Roy Bridwell (who was Marthas twin) and wife, Ruth (Babe) Edwards Bridwell, and twins, Jack Bridwell and wife, Olivia (Tia) Covey Bridwell and Jean Bloyd and husband, James Bloyd. Funeral Information Visitation will be on Tuesday, July 28th at the Day & Carter Mortuary from 10:00 am until noon with a brief service to follow. Her dear friend, Dr. Don Riggs will conduct the service. Burial and graveside rites will be at Green Hill Cemetery.
