He leaves behind his wife of 50 years, Karen Joy (Mills) Brown, and their three children; a daughter, Cheryl Lea Edwards and husband Vernon Edwards; a son, Charles Douglas Brown; a son Robert Kyle Brown and wife Amy Lee (Moore)Brown; six grandchildren, Tiffany (Edwards) Kimbley and husband Kris Kimbley, Brittany Edwards, Chad Brown, Hailey Brown, Kyndall Brown and Klayton Brown; a great-grandson, Keaton Kimbley; a sister, Georgia Roberts of Solsberry; a sister, Jane Sowders of Bedford; many nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws. After leaving the military he was hired at Crane and went on to serve 31 years in civil service. He was a member of the Fayetteville Baptist Church, American Legion Post #33 and a past member of the Otis Park Mens Club. He was an avid golfer and woodworker and approached these hobbies with the passion and determination that defined his way of life. He lived a life where he firmly believed that you received what you earned. The saying think first, speak second suits him well, as he never jumped to a conclusion. He had an incredible ability to listen to a problem, analyze it and then give the best possible advice that he could. He was a man who was greatly respected in all of his many roles in life and deservedly so. He truly was a wonderful husband and father and an inspiration to us all.
