Obituary of Jack L. Allen

Mesa, Arizona Lt. Colonel Jack Lynn Allen, 72, of Mesa, Arizona, formerly of Bedford, died at 3:21 pm on Wednesday, January 29, 2003 at the Mesa Lutheran Hospital in Mesa, Arizona. Born February 25, 1930 in Bedford, he was the son of Harry C. and Mabel (Sipes) Allen. He retired as a Lt. Colonel from the U.S. Army where he had served as a pilot and a paratrooper. He was a graduate of Bedford High School with the class of 1948. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Bedford, Elks Lodge #826, Moose Lodge of Mesa, AZ, Gillen Post #33 American Legion and the Retired Officers Assoc. Survivors include his close companion, Adrienne (Hitchcock) Savage of Mesa, AZ; two sons, Mark Lynn Allen and his wife, Dorothy, of Gilbert, AZ and Jack L. Kruger and family of Texas two daughters, Suzanne C. Thomas and her husband, David of Tucson, AZ and Stephanie Cobler and family of Texas; two grandchildren, Michelle Allen and Danny Allen and his wife, Amber all of Gilbert, AZ; one great grandchild; two sisters, Marilyn Olson (who was his twin) and Roberta Lenz both of Bedford; one sister-in-law, Edna Allen of Florida; three nieces, Susan Murray and her husband, Bill of Michigan; Debbie Marrs and her husband, Dave of Ohio; Terry Ferguson and her husband, Gene of Ohio; three nephews, Rick Olson and his wife, Treva of Bedford; Nelson Lee Allen and his wife, Twila of Rising Sun and Marc Allen and his wife, Marita of Ohio; close cousins including Harold F. Fender of Arizona who was an inspiration to Jack; and three close classmates, Don Maddox, Joe True and Harvey Turpin. He was preceded in death by parents, step-father, Lee Fisher and one brother, Robert E. Allen. Funeral Information Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 am on Saturday, February 8th from the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Rev. Robert Dailey officiating. Burial will follow in Clover Hill Cemetery in Harrodsburg. Friends may call from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Friday, February 7th and from 9:00 am until the hour of service on Saturday at the Day & Carter Mortuary. Military rites will be accorded at the graveside by members of the honor guard from Ft. Knox, KY.
