Obituary of Robert Allen

Owensburg Robert Allen, 85, of Owensburg, IN, died at 12:10 am on Monday, February 15, 2010 at Bloomington Hospital. Born September 9, 1924 in Martin Co., he was the son of John Thomas and Ola (Bays) Allen. He married Margaret Ashcraft on October 6, 1951 and she survives. He retired as a carpenter shop foreman for NWSC CRANE and was of the Christian faith. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps during WW II serving in the Pacific battles of Saipan and Iwo Jima. He was a member of the Solsberry Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite of Terre Haute and American Legion of Bloomfield. Surviving is his wife, Margaret of Owensburg; one son, Jeff Allen and wife, Linda of Bedford; one daughter, Debbie Lewis and husband, Jim of Springville; grandchildren, Sarah Lewis of Springville and fiance, William Folmer of Bedford, Tyler Lewis of Springville and fiance, Kayla Webb of Bedford, Jared Allen of Bedford, Allen Lewis of Springville, Jenna Allen, Jorie Allen and John Robert Allen all of Bedford; three brothers, Carl Allen and John Allen both of Bloomfield, Jim Allen of Odon; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Paul Allen; three sisters, Helen Leukhart, Nellie Boling and Mabel Allen; one nephew, Bill Boling. Funeral Information Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 pm on Saturday, February 20th in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Rev. Dee Kinman and Rev. Jim Dwyer officiating. Burial will follow in the Owensburg Cemetery. Military rites will be accorded at the graveside. Friends may call from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Friday, February 19th and from 12:00 noon until the hour of service on Saturday, February 20th at the Day & Carter Mortuary. A Masonic Service will be conducted at 7:00 pm on Friday, February 19th by the Solsberry Masonic Lodge.
