Obituary of Robert E. Box

Bedford Robert E. Bob Box, 86, of 1117 P Street, Bedford, died at 5:07 am on Thursday, June 8, 2006 at the Bedford Regional Medical Center. Born November 4, 1919 in Bedford, he was the son of Cleve and Ida (Wood) Box. He married Mary M. Gosser on June 16, 1956 and she preceded him in death on April 21, 2001. He was a veteran of WW II serving with the U.S. Army where he received the EAME Theater Ribbon with five bronze stars, the American Defense Service Medal, the Silver Star Medal and the Purple Heart. He retired from Central Foundry in Bedford and was a life-long member of the Elks Lodge and a sixty year member of Gillen Post #33 American Legion. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed following the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team. Survivors include one brother, Chester Box of Michigan City; a daughter-in-law, Beth of California and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one son, Jimmy Box; three brothers, Emmett, Paul and Warren Box; three sisters, Ethel Smith, Roberta Woodruff and Avanell Bolding. Funeral Information Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 am on Monday, June 12th from the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary. Burial will follow in Beech Grove Cemetery. Friends may call from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Sunday, June 11th at the Day & Carter Mortuary. Military rites will be accorded at the graveside by members of Gillen Post #33 American Legion.
