Obituary of Ssgt. Cory Woodard

Bedford Cory Woodard, 27, of Bedford, died Sunday, December 7, 2008 at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis following a tragic accident. Born March 16, 1981 in Albuquerque, NM, he was the son of Tony and Brenda Woodard. SSgt. Woodard was a soldier with the Indiana Army National Guard. He was a highly decorated veteran of three wars, serving in Bosnia, Afghanistan and having just returned from Iraq on Thanksgiving Day. SSgt. Woodard was a member of the VFW, Salem Post #6636. Cory Woody Woodard was a Rock Star. He was a dedicated and passionate musician for most of his life. Woody was a bassist in multiple bands, most recently playing with the local band I SCREAM! Cory was a graduate of Mitchell High School. He lettered in both Cross-Country and Track. He attended Indiana State University between deployments, and was majoring in Criminology. Cory shared his love of fishing most often with his dad, Tony, his mom, Brenda, and his brother, Sean. Survivors include his four sisters, Jennifer Zanaglio and her husband, T.R., Teena French, Amie Baltes, and Lorie Baltes and her husband Bryce Woodard; one brother, Sean Woodard and his wife, Kristen; six nieces and nephews, Richard, Micheal, Heather, Nicole and Rebeca Zanaglio and Jackson Woodard Baltes. Cory is also survived by all of his Brothers of Charlie Company and the Indiana National Guard, and his many friends of Lawrence County and throughout the United States. Funeral Information Funeral services will be conducted at 6:00 pm on Thursday, December 11th from the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with full military honors. Cremation will follow. Visitation will be from 10:00 am until the hour of service on Thursday, December 11th at the Day & Carter Mortuary in Bedford.
