Obituary of Mary Helen Hawkins

Bedford-Mary Helen Hawkins, 82, of Bedford, IN died at 11:57 P.M. Friday, September 2nd at her eldest sons residence. Born February 8, 1923 in Georgia, IN, she was the daughter of Henry and Maggie (Taylor) Starrett. She married Richard Harold Hawkins on February 27, 1940, in Paoli, IN and he preceded her in death August 11, 2001. Mary worked twenty-seven years at Sarkes Tarzan Electronics plant in Bloomington, IN. She was a Cub Scout and Boy Scout leader in the 1950s. She was a homemaker and enjoyed sewing and quilting. She did the upholstery work on the antique automobiles that she owned with her husband and was a past member of the Model A Club of Bedford. She was a past member of the Free Methodist Church. She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law: Joyce and Charles Totten of North Vernon and three sons and daughter-in-laws: Harold and Rosetta Hawkins and Kenneth E. and Karen Hawkins of Bedford and Kenneth R. and Jean Hawkins of Coshacton, OH. She is also survived by seven grandchildren: Richard Hawkins, Debra Wright and Shannon Rose of Bedford, Julie Allen of North Vernon, Marie Stapleton of South Carolina, Tracey Hawkins of Georgia and Todd Hawkins of Pennsylvania; Thirteen great grandchildren: Anthony and Daniel Allen; Jarret, Brandon and Ryan Hawkins; Anna and Laura Hawkins; Logan Hawkins; Eric, Elysse and Adam Stapleton; Ellisa Rose; and Matthew Wright, one sister: Glettus Starrett of Connersville, several nieces and nephews and special friends that called her grandma. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Richard; three brothers James, William and Roy Starrett and her four sisters: Addie Sanders, Viola Owen, Robertine Honeycutt and Lula Holt. Funeral Information Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, September 7, 2005 in the Elmwood Chapel of Day & Carter Mortuary with Pastor John Dodd and Pastor Glen Duncan. Burial will follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens. Friends may call on Tuesday, September 6th from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at Day & Carter.
