Obituary of George Arthur Whitmill

Bedford George Arthur Whitmill, 82, of Bedford, died Sunday, January 21, 2007 at the St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis, IN. Born May 4, 1924 in Kansas City, KS, he was the son of George E. and Charlotte (Campbell) Whitmill. He married Margaret Ann Peggy Horton on November 18, 1947 and she survives. George graduated from Lapel, IN High School in 1943. He was devoted Christian and a member of the Springville United Methodist Church for over fifty-three years. During those years, he was involved in every aspect of the church. He taught high school Sunday school class and was a trustee for many years. George touched the lives of many children over the years as a school bus driver in the North Lawrence Community School Corporation for forty-two years. He was also employed by the school as a custodian for twenty-five years and was a life-long farmer. He loved raising and riding horses. In 2004, he and his wife were honored at the Needmore High School Alumni Banquet as Mr. and Mrs. Hilltopper. He was beloved by his family, church and community for his kindness and love. He was a generous husband and father and will be deeply missed. Surviving with his wife, Margaret Peggy, are two children, George Marlin Whitmill and his wife, Kathleen Crockett of Whetstone, AZ and Sara Whitmill Williams and her husband, Paul of North Liberty, IN; four grandchildren, Jacob Whitmill and his wife, Samantha, Martha Whitmill Hilderbrand and her husband, Dylan, Ryan and Jodi Williams; one great granddaughter, Jasmine Whitmill; one brother, Charles Whitmill of Anderson, IN and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Lida VanDyke and Edna Schlabach. Funeral Information Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Thursday, January 25th from the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary. A graveside committal service will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Friday, January 26th at the Summitt Lawn Cemetery in Westfield, IN.
