Obituary of John Way
Bedford John Way, 84, of 5692 State Road 158, Bedford, died at 7:38 pm on Wednesday, October 15, 2008 at Dunn Memorial Hospital.
Born August 24, 1924, in West Baden, IN, he was the son of William G. and Grace Fern (Gardner) Way. He married Ruth Verrell Williams on December 23, 1944 and she survives. He retired on January 3, 1983 from NWSC Crane where he was over the boiler operation in the water works. He then worked at Benders Handy-Mans for six years and at Southern States Supply for three years. John was a member of Mid-town Church of Christ and a veteran of WW II serving with the U.S. Navy.
Survivors include his wife of sixty-three years, Ruth Way of Bedford; one daughter, Barbara Jean Way of Bedford; one son, Kevin Lee Way of Bedford; one grandson, Nathan Lee Way of Bedford; three brothers, Paul Way and his wife, Martha of Bedford, Jerry Way and his wife, Becky of Florida, Larry Dean Way and his wife, Diane of Ellettsville; two sisters, Wanda West and her husband, Wendell of Greene Co. and Janet Sue Tidd and her husband, David of Bedford; one half-brother, William G. Way of Indianapolis; one step-brother, Larry Kern of Bedford and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, James and Robert Way; three sisters, Margie Moore, Wilma Garner and Brenda Sears. Funeral Information
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Saturday, October 18th from the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Bud Smith and Dean Jackson officiating. Burial will follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens. Military rites will be accorded at the graveside by members of Gillen Post #33 American Legion. Friends may call from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Friday, October 17th and from 12:00 noon until the hour of service on Saturday, October 18th at the Day & Carter Mortuary.
