Obituary of Cletus R. Waggoner

Springville Cletus R. Waggoner, 73, of 1311 Cobb Lane, Springville, died at 4:25 am on Thursday, June 22, 2006 at the Dunn Memorial Hospital in Bedford. Born September 6, 1932 in Martin Co., he was the son of Ralph and Flossie (Rush) Waggoner. He married Naomi Baker and she preceded him in death in 1996. He later married Alma Holmes and she survives. He was a rural mail carrier retiring in 1989 from the Springville Post Office after twenty-nine years. He was a member of the National Rural Letter Carrier Assoc., the Fayetteville Baptist Church and was a Red Coat volunteer at Dunn Memorial Hospital. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy from 1951 to 1955 serving as a hospital Corpsman 1st Class aboard the U.S.S. Newport News. Surviving with his wife, Alma of Springville and two sons, Cletus Butch Waggoner, Jr. of Springville and John S. Waggoner of Columbus; a step-daughter, Jill Van Tine of Bedford; a step-son, Stephen Turner of Bedford; six grandchildren; five great grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; six step great-grandchildren; four brothers, Loren Waggoner of Silverville; Talmadge Waggoner and Carl Waggoner both of Springville and Opal Waggoner of Bedford. He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Naomi, one brother, Winfred Waggoner, one grandson, Kenneth Waggoner, one step-son, Tim Turner. Funeral Information Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 pm on Saturday, June 24th from the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Rev. Kenny Walden officiating. Burial will follow in Lowder Cemetery. Friends may call from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Friday, June 23rd at the Day & Carter Mortuary. Military rites will be accorded at the graveside by members of Gillen Post #33 American Legion.
