Obituary of Elwood P. Vowell

Bedford Elwood P. Vowell, 93, of Bedford, died at 1:32 pm on Sunday, August 3, 2014 at St. Vincent Dunn Hospital. Born February 6, 1921 in Daviess Co., he was the son of John B. and Lidia (Howerton) Vowell. He married Ruth Stoll on June 29, 1946 and she survives. He was an officer with the Bedford Police Dept. and veteran of WW II serving with the U.S. Army. He was a member of the Bedford Masonic Lodge #14 F & AM, Gillen Post #33 American Legion, Order of the Eastern Star and Stone City Lodge 94 F.O.P. Survivors include his wife, Ruth, of Bedford; a son, Jim Vowell and wife, Pamela, of Bedford; grandchildren, Annette Buechlein, Corey Keith, and Eric Keith and wife, Amanda all of Bedford; great grandchildren, Kelsei Keith, Drew Keith, Emily Keith, Memphis Buechlein and Peyton Keith. He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, Ollie Vowell, Hazel Mowery, Bert Vowell, Keith Vowell, John Vowell, Jr., Alveretta Weddle, Alma Stroud, William Vowell, Hallie Corn and Joyce Vowell. Funeral Information Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, August 6th in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Pastor Jeff Jones officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery where military rites will be accorded by members of Gillen Post #33 American Legion and D.A.V. Chapter #2. Visitation will be from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Tuesday, August 5th and from 11:00 am until the hour of service on Wednesday, August 6th at the Day & Carter Mortuary.
