Obituary of Archibald Cameron Voris

Bedford Archibald Cameron Voris III, 74, died Wednesday, August 31, 2005 at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio. Born March 18, 1931, in Bedford, he was the son of Archibald C. Voris II and Ruth McGowin Voris. He married Lorenda Ellison Voris on February 14, 1975, and she survives. In 1949 he was graduated from Bedford High School where he received the Rotary Award and was a starting guard on the basketball team that went to the semi-state. He was graduated from Princeton University in 1953, and then served in the United States Army. In 1955 he joined The Citizens National Bank and was named president in 1965. He became the banks chairman of the board in 1978 and served in that capacity until his retirement in 1989. Mr. Voris was active in the community. He was a member of the board and past president of the Bedford Public Library, Bedford Park Board, and the Thornton Memorial Boys Club. He was active in the Bedford Chamber of Commerce and in 1958 became its youngest president. He also was the youngest recipient of the Chambers Community Service Award. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Bedford Masonic Lodge #14 F & AM, the Scottish Rite Valley of Indianapolis, B.P.O.E. #826, American Legion Gillen Post #33, Tiger Inn and the I-Deal Club. Surviving with his wife are a daughter, Elizabeth C. Ochoa and a son, Joseph W. Voris both of Bedford; a brother, James Edmonson Voris of Bedford; grandchildren Ashley E. Lemke, Nicholas A. Lemke and Evan J. Voris, all of Bedford; stepchildren, Stephen R. Maddox of Bedford and Susan E. Maddox of Nashville, Tennessee; two step-grandchildren, Matthew S. Maddox and Hollie J. Teague, both of Bedford; one step-great grandchild, Jasper S. Maddox of Bedford; brother-in-law, James W. Ellison and mother-in-law, Kathleen Ellison. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Joseph R. Voris. Funeral Information Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 am on Monday, September 5th at the First Presbyterian Church in Bedford with Rev. Mark McDaniel officiating. Burial will follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens. Friends may call from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Sunday, September 4th at the Day & Carter Mortuary and from 9:00 am until the hour of service on Monday, September 5th at the First Presbyterian Church.
