Obituary of Dale R. Underwood

Bedford-Dale R. Underwood, 88, a resident of Stonebridge Health Campus died at 2:15 A.M. on Saturday, March 21, 2009 at the Bedford Regional Medical Center. Born October 1, 1920 in Lawrence County, IN he was the son of Alfred E. and Ruth (Panza) Underwood. He married Lorna June Evans on October 10, 1938 and she survives. He was a veteran of the US Army serving during WWII with the 65th combat infantry division. He was a member of the St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, and the American Legion Gillen Post #33. Dale worked at Central Foundry in Plant Protection until his retirement in 1980. Surviving with his wife of 70 years Lorna June, are one daughter: Donna K. Ping and her husband Don of Columbus, IN; three sons: Dale E. Bud Underwood and his wife Camille of Oolitic, Jon Mark Underwood and his wife Barbara of Bloomington, and Denny Underwood and his wife Melinda of San Antonio, TX; two sisters: Donna Rose Brown of Medora and Sarah Tincher of Bedford; one brother: Don Underwood of Bedford; 9 grandchildren, 15great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a special uncle Tom Panza, two sisters: Norma Jean Ellis, and Evelyn Fields, and one brother Walter Ike Underwood. Funeral Information Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 A.M. on Tuesday, March 24th at the St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church with Father Rick Eldred officiating. Burial will follow in the Green Hill Cemetery. Friends may call from 3:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. on Monday, March 23rd at the Day & Carter Mortuary. A rosary service will be conducted at 7:30 on Monday, March 23rd.
