Obituary of Burl Wayne Blackwell

Bedford Burl Wayne Blackwell, 79, of Bedford, died at 9:21 pm on Wednesday, June 28, 2006 at the Bloomington Hospital. Born May 2, 1927 in Lawrence Co., he was the son of William and Ethel (Henderson) Blackwell. He married Geraldine King on June 18, 1945 and she survives. He retired from Central Foundry in 1978. He was a member of the Hillcrest Christian Church and U.A.W. Local #440. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps serving during WW II. Surviving with his wife, Geraldine of Bedford are two sons, John Blackwell and his wife, Cathy of Springville; James Blackwell and his wife, Judith of Bedford; one daughter, Nancy Griffith and her husband, Stanley of Bloomington; one sister, Lola Mae Davers of Brownstown; five grandchildren; Julie England and her husband, Mike of Springville, Thomas Blackwell and his wife, Brooke of Mitchell, James T. Blackwell of Smithville, Robert Wayne Blackwell and his wife, Amanda and Derek Adam Blackwell all of Bedford five great grandchildren, Jessi England, Conner Blackwell, Daulton, Devin and Dayson Blackwell; five step grandchildren, Robin Bradford and her husband, Steve of Fishers, Anthony Griffith and his girlfriend, Jennifer Hughes of Indianapolis, Tracy, Tony and Travis Harrison all of Bedford, six step great grandchildren, Dakota, Dayton, Zack, Zane Zayden and Tyler Harrison. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Morris, Norman and Oscar Blackwell; four sisters, Mabel Samuelson, Lillian Parmalee, Jean Meeker, Lois Mowery; one half-sister, Marie Blackwell and one half-brother, Garland Applegate. Funeral Information Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 pm on Saturday, July 1st from the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary. Burial will follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens. Friends may call from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Friday, June 30th at the Day & Carter Mortuary. Military rites will be accorded at the graveside by members of Gillen Post #33 American Legion.
