Obituary of Dale Bruce Humphrey

Springville-Dale Bruce Humphrey, 73, of 697 State Road 54 West in Springville passed away at12:32 P.M. on Saturday, December 15, 2007 at his residence. Born January 6, 1934 in Scott County, IN he was the son of Lowry Humphrey and Valera (Blunt) Armstrong. He married Peggy Armstrong on August 31, 1952 and she survives. He was a member of the Popcorn Christian Church, a 1951 graduate of Oolitic High School, a 1957 of Purdue University with a B.S. degree in Ag. Economics. He was a Sagamore if the Wabash. He received a Certificate of Distinction from Purdue University Agriculture Association Alumni. He was a Farm mortgage Lender with American United Life Ins. Co. from 1957-1959, from 1973-1975 he served as a part-time instructor for the Veterans Agriculture Program teaching agriculture to veterans of the Korean and Vietnam Wars, a self employed farmer and cattle producer. He was a past president of the Lawrence County Cattlemens Association, Lawrence County Extension Board and a member of the Lawrence County Fair Board, a member Deans Advisory Committee Purdue University, member of the advisory committee Farm Credit Services, member of Packer Feasibility Task Force, and a past president of the Indiana Cattlemens Association. He was a past president of the National Cattlemens Association, he held various other offices in the National Cattlemens Association, he was the first vice president of the National Cattlemens Association, he served as chairman of the resolutions, nominating and farm policy committees, he was a Region One vice president, a member of the four nations trade group, and was chairman of trade policy meeting in Japan and Mexico. He was past president of the school board nominating committee, and a member of the Dunn Hospital Board of Governors. He enjoyed playing bridge with his family and friends. He was a namesake of the Dale and Thomas Popcorn Company in New York City. Surviving with his wife Peggy of Springville, are his children: Carol Lee Anthony and her husband David of Bloomington, Brian Humphrey of Springville, and Craig Humphrey and his wife Cindy of Colorado; nine grandchildren: Holly Carpenter of Illinois, Aaron Chastain of Illinois, Gretchen Brashear of Missouri, Chance and Samantha Humphrey of Springville, Marcy and Brett Humphrey of Colorado, Richard Anthony of Texas, and Robert Anthony of Ohio; five great grandchildren; one brother Ronald Humphrey of Kentland, IN. He was preceded in death by his parents, step-father Rush Armstrong, and one brother Phillip Armstrong. Funeral Information Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 A.M. on Tuesday, December 18th from the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Pastor Jerry Wisley and Pastor Thurston Scott officiating. Burial will follow in the Lowder Cemetery in Springville. Friends may call from 3:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M.
