Obituary of James C. Binkley

May 01, 2006 James C. Binkley, 83, of Hendersonville, North Carolina, passed away Monday, May 1, 2006, following a brief illness. A member of the First Baptist Church of Hendersonville, he also served several churches in Indiana, Ohio and Kentucky as both deacon and minister of music. Graduating from Georgetown College in 1956, he devoted more than 35 years of service as a high school English teacher in Kentucky and Ohio. He was a World War II veteran of the European theater, serving as a combat engineer with the 253rd Combat Engineer Battalion. He was awarded two battle stars for his service. After his discharge he married Vivian Bennett, daughter of Rex and Lucy Bennett of Oolitic, and worked several years for the Indiana Limestone Quarry. During this time he was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Oolitic. He wanted to be remembered for the three great loves of his life. It goes without saying that, as a member of the greatest generation, he loved his country, which he served failthfully in time of war. He also loved his family dearly, especially Vivian, with whom he spent 60 glorious years. His children, grandchildren and other family were dear to him. But his first and greatest love was for his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, whom he followed with devotion. He is survived by his wife, Vivian Bennett Binkley; daughters, Mary Beth Fendley of Hendersonville and Susan Weisenburger of Plano, TX; six grandchildren, Kimberly Fendley Durden of Harrisonburg, VA., Kara Fendley Kilpatrick, Laura Fendley King and Timothy Carlton Fendley, all of Hendersonville, and Rachel and James Weisenburger of Plano, TX, five great-grandchildren, Kathryn Fendley Kilpatrick, Jakob and Hannah Durden and Emma and Julia King; sons-in-law, the Rev. Kenneth (Skip) Fendley of Hendersonville, and Dr. Steven Weisenburger of Plano, TX, as well as grandsons-in-law, Jeff Durden, Steve Kilpatrick and Jeremy King. He was preceded in death by twin children, Rebecca Jane and Timothy Carlton Binkley. Funeral Information A funeral service will be held at l:00 pm, Friday at Day & Carter Mortuary, 1133 Lincoln Avenue in Bedford. The Rev. Kenneth C. (Skip) Fendley will officiate. Interment will be in Green Hill Cemetery, Bedford. Friends may call from 12 noon to the service hour Friday at the Day & Carter Mortuary. Military rites will be accorded at the graveside by members of Gillen Post #33 American Legion.
