Obituary of Orlando Frederick Bierbaum
Bedford Orlando Frederick Bierbaum, 93, of Bedford, died at 2:30 am on Wednesday, March 31, 2010 at his residence.
Born July 31, 1916 in Warrenton, MO, the son of Heinrick W. and Mary Sophia (Luethenmeier) Bierbaum. He married Faye Marie Hensley on September 27, 1941 in Portsmouth, VA and she preceded him in death on August 4, 1997. He was a graduate of Malta Bend High School and Chillicothe College in Missouri. He served in WW II in Ardennes, Rhineland and central Europe with the 17th and 101st Airborne Troops as a combat engineer. He was awarded the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, American Theatre Ribbon, and EAME Theatre Ribbon with three bronze stars, Victory Medal and others in both Belgium and France. He was a member of the Erie United Methodist Church where he served as Lay Speaker for approximately ten years. He was a farmer, woodworker (repairer and refinisher). He retired from NWSC CRANE in 1973. He was a member of Gillen Post #33 American Legion and the American Federation of Government Workers.
Survivors include a son, Robert D. Bierbaum and wife, Jane, of the Buddha community in Bedford; two grandchildren, R. Dean Bierbaum and wife, Christy and Michael Scott Bierbaum and wife, Jennifer; four great grandchildren; four step great grandchildren and two step great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, two brothers and two sisters. Funeral Information
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Saturday, April 3rd in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Rev. Kenny Dalton and Chris Meadows officiating. Burial will follow in the Erie Cemetery. Military rites will be accorded at the graveside by members of Gillen Post #33 American Legion.
