Obituary of Ruth Irene Tatom

Bedford Ruth Irene Tatom, 92, of Bedford, died at 6:30 pm on Sunday, November 13, 2011 at White River Lodge. Born July 4, 1919, in Bedford, she was the daughter of John Norman and Celia P. (Speer) Root. She married Joe Tatom on April 8, 1944 and he preceded her in death. She retired from Sarkes-Tarzian in Bloomington after twenty-five years. She was a member of the Leatherwood Christian Church where she played the piano for many years and was a Sunday School teacher. She was a member of the Ludeans Ladies Group and a Key Lady for the Hoosier Christian Village in Brownstown. Survivors include a son, Bill Tatom and wife, Jill of Bedford; two grandchildren, Mark Tatom and wife, April, and Melissa Tatom all of Bloomington; a niece, Norma Smith and husband, Art of Salem. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a grandchild, Teresa; a brother, Fred Root; two step-sisters, Marie and Gertie. Funeral Information Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 am on Wednesday, November 16th in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Pastor Sherman Thomas officiating. Burial will follow in the Leatherwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Tuesday, November 15th and from 10:00 am until the hour of service on Wednesday, November 16th at the Day & Carter Mortuary.
