Obituary of Olin R. Swango

BedfordOur loss is Heavens gain! Olin Swango unexpectedly finished his earthly journey on Saturday, August 19th 2006. Olin was a professing and practicing Christian throughout his life. He was an outstanding son, son-in-law, husband, father, grandfather, father-in-law, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, friend to extended family members and acquaintances. He not only talked the talk; he also walked the walk. Olin spent most of his 69 years working in the Church as a nursery worker, choir member, teacher, elder , deacon, and/or trustee. At the time of his death, he was an active member of the Old Union Christian Church-a congregation he loved dearly and where he felt dearly loved. In addition to his church work, he devoted 28 years to developing and overseeing the New Union Christian Church Cemetery Association. He worked for Brunner Engineering and Manufacturing for many years, and he finished his career with 15 years of service at Indiana University. His most recent position was that of holder, rocker, reader, teacher, encourager, and playmate to his two grandchildren, Bode and Ryley Swango. Olin is survived by his wife Reva Gail Sears Swango; one daughter, Denise Swango; one son, Daren Swango and his wife, Melanie, all of Bedford; two grandchildren, Bode Swango and Ryley Swango; two sisters, Mildred (Carl) Stone and Doris Hampton; one brother, Quincy Swango; his mother-in-law, Ruth Sears; four sisters-in-law, Carol (Jim) Simmons, Dinah (Don) Sears, Vivian (Mark) Ritter, and Jeanne Silvers; two brothers-in-law, Joe Phillips and Don Sears; special friends and Christian sisters, Sandy Nasco and Tracy Zeeks as well as several nieces and nephews and their families. He was preceded in death by his parents, Russell and Anna Evans Swango; father-in-law, Kent Sears; brothers-in-law, Ralph Fenander and David Sears; sisters-in-law, Mary Swango and Evelyn Phillips. Funeral Information Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, August 22nd from the Elmwood Chapel of Day & Carter Mortuary with Rev. Mark Fish and Rev. David Brown officiating. Burial will follow in the Old Union Cemetery with pallbearers being, Denny Ashley, Darren Roberts, Joe Phillips, Brad Phillips, Brian Phillips, Mark Ritter, Aaron Ritter and Don Sears and honorary pallbearers being, Marvin Clark, David Fish, Riley Roberts, Carl Stone and the men of the Old Union Christian Church. Friends may call at Day & Carter Mortuary on Monday, August 21st from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M.
