Obituary of James R. Stevenson

Oolitic James R. Stevenson, Jr., 58, of 101 Vista Drive, Oolitic, died at 12:27 am on Friday, December 19, 2008 at the Bloomington Hospital. Born May 24, 1950 in Richmond, IN, he was the son of James R. Stevenson, Sr. and Dorothy Louise (Moss) Stevenson. He married Darlene Alexander on January 15, 1972 and she survives. Jim was a graduate of the Centerville Senior High School in Centerville, IN with the class of 1968. He was a sports standout and excelled academically, earning several scholarships. He graduated from Indiana University in 1973 with a BA in business finance. Jim had been employed as a consumer loan officer with the Jackson County Bank in Seymour and Bedford. While in Seymour, he was a member of the Sertoma Service Club and was active in St. Ambrose Catholic Church. He later worked for Indiana Farm Bureau and was an agent in Lawrence Co. the past fourteen years. He attended the Mitchell Wesleyan Church in Mitchell. Survivors include his parents, James and Dorothy of Richmond, IN; his wife, Darlene of Oolitic; three sons, James Craig Stevenson and his wife, Gretchen of Bloomington, Chad Robert Stevenson and Christopher Lee Stevenson both of Oolitic; two granddaughters, Sydney and Kaitlyn Stevenson; one grandson, James Connor Stevenson; one sister, Cathy Overturf of Wisconsin; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Linda K. Funeral Information A memorial service will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Sunday, December 21st at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Richmond, IN with Rev. Todd Riebe and Rev. Todd Alexander officiating. Friends may call from 12:00 noon until the hour of service on Sunday, December 21st at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Richmond, IN. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, December 23rd from the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Rev. Todd A. Alexander, Pastor Steve Jones and Pastor Tim Morris officiating. Burial will follow in the Green Hill Cemetery. Friends may call from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Monday, December 22nd at the Day & Carter Mortuary.
