Obituary of Mary Alice Stevens
Bedford Mary Alice (Staggs) Stevens, 89, of Bedford, rode her "Golden Buggy" piloted by the angels through the gates of Heaven. Her family and all of Heaven rejoiced that her earthly mission had been accomplished.
She was born in Oolitic on April 24, 1921 to William Bill and Maggie (Thomas) Staggs. On August 26,, 1940, she married James R. Stevens in Lawrence County and they were married seventy years. Her legacy is her children: Connie (Willard) Johnson, Bonnie Meadows, Sonja (Dave) Wilson, and James (Diane) Stevens, II all of Bedford; grandchildren, Scott (Paula) Johnson of Bedford, Mary Alice Garcia (her namesake) of Kansas, Wes (Beth) Johnson of Mitchell, Bob (Stephanie) Meadows, Chris (Susan) Meadows, Stacey Meadows all of Bedford, Dusty (Sandy) Wilson of Odon and Brad Wilson of Bedford; great grandchildren, Matthew Johnson of Bedford, Lindsey and Lauren Garcia of Kansas, Eric and Devin Johnson of Mitchell, Leslie, Audrey and Adam Meadows of Bedford, Clayton and Ashton Wilson of Odon; one brother, Dr. William Bill Staggs of Tucson, Arizona and one sister, Joyce Tolliver of Indianapolis. She was preceded in death by her parents, a son-in-law, Dale Meadows; brothers, John, Charles, Pat and Jack Staggs.
She loved her flower gardens and the outdoors. She loved her golf cart, nicknamed The Buggy but most of all, she loved teaching children about Jesus in Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. Funeral Information
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 pm on Friday, September 24th in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary. Burial will follow in the Leatherwood Christian Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Thursday, September 23rd and from 12:00 noon until the hour of service on Friday, September 24th at the Day & Carter Mortuary. Donations Information
