Obituary of Bertha Sterling
Bedford Bertha Sterling, 69, of 1032 24th Street, Bedford, died at 11:07 am on Saturday, November 10, 2012 at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.
Born May 30, 1943 in Blythville, Arkansas, she was the daughter of Phillip and Sallie (Sledge) Hackett. She married Charles Dewayne Chuck Sterling and he preceded her in death. She retired from General Motors in 1995 and was the owner of Chucks Soul Food in Bedford. She was a member of the Landmark Missionary Baptist Church in Chicago under the leadership of Rev. Joseph Silvester until 1992 when Bertha moved to Bedford from Lagrange, Illinois. She was a member of the Second Missionary Baptist Church under the former leadership of Rev. Sylvester Sykes and then Pastor Donald C. Griffin, Sr. She was the President of the Womens Missionary Circle, President of the Missions Board and the Pastor Aid Auxillary. She enjoyed cooking, camping watching old westerns and soap operas.
Survivors include daughters, Janice Nickeo and Johanna Williams; a son, Tracy Gist; a grandchild, Patshawna Nickeo and a brother, Roy Hackett. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and a sibling, Jimmy Hackett. Funeral Information
Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Friday, November 16th at the Day & Carter Mortuary. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 am on Saturday, November 17th at Dive Christian Church with Rev. Donald C. Griffin, Sr. officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery.
