Obituary of Arthur Howard

Bedford Arthur Howard, 89, of Bedford left his family in peace on Sunday, August 20, 2006. He was born May 6, 1917 in Harlan Co., Kentucky to James and Katie Howard. On October 2, 1938 he married Anna Lee Helton and she survives. Arthur was a coal miner, moon shiner and logger in Kentucky. He was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps and proudly served in the U.S. Army. In 1953, the Howard family moved to Salem, Indiana and Arthur worked for the Smith Cabinet Co. until his retirement. Arthur enjoyed family, coonhunting, raising coon dogs, jeeps, gardening, guns, horses, 4-wheeling and being outdoors. He lived a fulfilling life and will be deeply missed by all those whose lives he touched. In addition to his wife, Anna, Arthur is survived by their children, Arthur Lee Howard and his wife, Alma; Ada V. Edwards and her husband, Dean; Katie Sue Wigley and her husband, Frank; two sisters, America Helton and Mary Smith. The Howards were blessed with nine grandchildren; twenty-six great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, seven brothers and one sister. Funeral Information Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, August 23rd from the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Mike Holsapple officiating.
